There are two kinds of Top-Level Domains: generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) (ccTLDs). So, what's the distinction between gTLDs and ccTLDs?

gTLDs stand for generic Top-Level Domains.  gTLDs are not restricted to any geographic or country designation, as the term "generic" implies. It can be registered by anyone in the world via the internet. gTLDs include the well-known ".com", ".net", ".biz", ".info", and ".org".

Another type of TLD is country code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs)

ccTLDs are two-letter TLDs that are assigned to countries primarily based on their country codes. For example, ".my" represents Malaysia, ".sg" represents Singapore, ".vn" represents Vietnam, and ".in" represents India. A ccTLD is intended for a single country or region and includes geographic and country designation. Many ccTLDs are closed and restricted because they are managed solely by their respective countries. Registration for these ccTLDs typically involves a standard process mandated by the country's governing body, which may differ from one another. Some countries require proof of residency. However, there are some countries that do not limit their ccTLDs. They openly market and encourage people from all over the world to register and use them, such as ".me," ".co," ".tv," and ".fm." You now understand why some website names end with such ccTLDs.

The main issue you should be concerned about is SEO.

For a search engine, gTLDs and ccTLDs are distinct.

gTLDs indicate to search engines that your website is neutral, whereas ccTLDs indicate that your website is specific to a specific location. This will naturally have an impact on the results displayed to a user whenever he uses a search engine. Using a ccTLD strongly indicates to search engines that your content is focused on a specific country. ccTLDs are strategically essential to boost SEO.
